Description

No. 12 Sir Harry's Road is a detached villa built between 1850 and 1855. This two-storey, three-bay structure features a tall, narrow elevation raised on a basement plinth, with a slightly recessed two-storey entrance wing on the southeast side. The villa exhibits Italianate architectural details, with alterations made to the wing and rear elevation in 1902, which reflect an Arts and Crafts style.

The main elevation above the plinth showcases channelled pier arcading that frames the ground floor windows, which are topped with archivolt arches. The first floor windows also feature archivolt arches, and there is a first-floor sill course that extends over the wing. The frieze is decorated with festoons and is supported by superimposed console brackets that hold up the flat eaves of the hipped slate roof. Tall flanking chimney stacks are vertically incised to create a grouped effect and are capped with cornices.

A central dormer with a round keystone arched window is set beneath an open segmental pediment, dating from 1902. The first-floor windows are surrounded by eared architrave surrounds. The entrance wing includes a narrow, two-storey canted bay window with leaded lights, added in 1902, along with small square eared architrave windows likely inserted at the same time. The original porch has been replaced by a cornice hood that is suspended from an Arts and Crafts scrolled iron tie rod. The plinths flanking the steps are topped with ornate scrolled iron lamp standards. The frieze continues around the main block to the garden front, which features a pediment gable break and altered bay windows from 1902.
