Description

The building at 56, 58, and 60 Newhall Street dates from around 1900. It is constructed primarily of pink brick and terracotta, with some red brick detailing, and has a slate roof. The building is four storeys high, plus an attic, and comprises seven bays arranged in a three-bay, one-bay, three-bay rhythm.

The ground floor contains a modern shop front in the centre and entrances recessed within terracotta porches that extend upwards to the first floor. These porches feature scrollwork above the arches and a first-floor, three-light window. The first floor has five central cross windows set within brick and terracotta arches and tympana. Second-floor windows are similar, with segmental arches. The third floor includes a central oriel window, flanked by two groups of three windows. Between these groups are blocked pilasters and tall, narrow panels intricately carved with figurative sculpture. The building features an eaves cornice and two gables, each with a tripartite window and a cartouche in the apex. A three-light dormer casement window is positioned between the gables. All windows have leaded lights. The interior is not of particular interest.
