Description
95 Cornwall Street is a Grade II* listed building located in the City Centre of Birmingham, constructed in 1901 by architects T W F Newton and Cheattle for Smith Priestly. This building features brick and stone construction with a green slate roof, designed in the Arts and Crafts style. It stands three storeys tall, plus a basement and attic, and is divided into three bays on the first and second floors by giant pilasters, with the outer pilasters appearing to be derived from half-capitals.
The ground floor is made of stone, with pilasters flanking two windows and a heavy porch that has a notably deep parapet, matching the stone band at the first and second floor levels. Each of the first and second floors contains three sash windows with glazing bars. Inside, there is a bracketted cornice and a parapet with upswept ends. The roof features three dormer sash windows with flat heads. The property is enhanced by splendid iron railings of excellent design, which include an overthrow for the area stairs. There is no significant interior detail noted. This building is part of an important group of houses.
