Description
This is a house, later adapted for use as a shop, built around 1813, with alterations including a mid-20th century shop front. The house is constructed of pinkish-brown brick laid in an English garden wall bond, with a painted stucco front facade and a Welsh slate roof. It is three storeys high with an attic, and originally had two windows on the first floor. There are remnants of horizontal rustication on the ground floor. A prominent first-floor band is surmounted by three tall Ionic pilasters which extend through the first and second floors, topped with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The first floor has tall 6/6 sashes with plain reveals. The second floor has 3/6 sashes with plain reveals and moulded sills. The right-hand entrance has three steps leading to a four-panel door with a fanlight containing glazing bars, panelled reveals, and a roll-moulded surround. Attic dormers are present but their sashes are partly concealed. Truncated end stacks are visible and the roof is mansard. The interior remains unexamined. Gloucester Street was developed between 1806 and 1813.
