Description
No 8 Castle Street is an 18th-century house that has been used since 1826 as the premises for the "Warwick Dispensary for the sick and poor of Warwick and its neighbourhood." It was known as the Warwick Provident Dispensary from 1859 to 1948. The building features an ashlar facade with five windows, two storeys, and attics. The windows have glazing bars and are set in plain reveals. The front wall has a rusticated base made of local sandstone. At the corners, there are pilasters with fluted and enriched capitals, although the left-hand capital is made of new stone. The building has a coved cornice and a rusticated base. The central entrance is framed by pilasters with fluted capitals and an entablature, leading to a six-fielded-panelled door topped with a semi-circular fanlight. There are three pedimented dormers, with the center one being segmental, and the roof is covered with well-weathered modern tiles. The interior includes an 18th-century staircase and panelling.
