Description
The New Almshouses are a mid-19th century range of four cottages designed in a neo-Tudor style, located on the north side of Vicarage Road in Stoneleigh. They are constructed from sandstone ashlar and feature a plain tiled roof with gabled ends and moulded eaves. The building is one storey high with attics, consisting of five slightly projecting gabled bays that have moulded kneelers and four slightly projecting dormers that break the eaves, supported by carved brackets. Each gabled bay contains a small square-headed lancet window with diamond-pane lights. There are two narrow four-centred arched doorways leading into vestibules in the second and fourth projecting gabled bays from the right, which have paired doors facing each other. The cottages also feature square-headed mullion and transom windows with drip moulds; two of these have diamond panes while the other two have glazing bars.
