Description
23 Jury Street is a building dating from 1781, originally two dwellings, Nos 23 and 25. It features an 18th-century front and a wing from around 1550, with a second floor from the 17th century. The front is made of ashlar and consists of three storeys with five windows, all fitted with glazing bars. The sashes are set in plain reveals with key blocks. There are plain string bands at the first and second floor levels, and a projecting plinth. The corners are accentuated by Tuscan pilasters, topped with a full entablature. The eaves have a small moulded cornice. The wide central entrance and doorway are likely 19th-century alterations, which have been done sympathetically, except for the stained glass in the fanlight and sidelights. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with heavy Welsh slates. This building is part of a group with all the listed buildings on the north side of Jury Street, from Nos 17 to 37.
