Description
37 Jury Street is a house located on the corner of The Butts, dating back to 1781. It was the home of Dr. James Cooke, a surgeon and writer during the Civil War, who founded the Warwick Baptist Chapel and was a friend of Dr. John Hall. The building likely has origins from the 16th or 17th century, but no original features are visible from the outside except for a 17th-century carved panel above the door. A rainwater head dated 1856 suggests that the exterior may have been given a timber framing style around that time, which aligns with the character of the town. The listed buildings on the north side, from Nos 17 to 37, form a group.
