Description

Number 56 is a villa located on Binswood Avenue in Royal Leamington Spa, built around 1834 with later additions and alterations, including some from the mid-20th century. The building features pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco on the front and side facades, a concealed roof, and cast-iron railings.

The villa is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows, with low-storey walls on either side; the left side includes a garage. Full-height Tuscan pilasters frame the corners and separate the windows. The entrance is central, accessed by seven roll-edged steps leading to a part-glazed door with an overlight, situated within a distyle Doric porch that has engaged pilasters, a stepped frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are 6/6 sashes, taller on the ground floor, each with sills and moulded architraves, and the ground floor features a frieze, cornice, blocking course, and copings. There are end stacks on the roof.

The interior has not been inspected. The villa is flanked by walls on the right and left, with a plank pedestrian door on the right. The steps are adorned with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail.

Historically, Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828. Numbers 50-60 on Binswood Avenue, along with Number 8 Kenilworth Road and Number 3 Arlington Avenue, form an architectural group.
