Description
A terrace of four houses, numbers 31 to 37, with an attached shop and offices to the right, dating to the early 19th century. A shop front was added around 1900. The houses are built of pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The front features cast-iron porches and railings.
The houses are three storeys high with basements, and each has four windows on the first floor. The windows are 8/8 sashes in plain reveals, with sills throughout. The entrances are to the right of each house, accessed by three steps leading to panelled and part-glazed doors. A projecting glazed shop front to the right has pilaster strips, a frieze, and a cornice. Basement windows are 5/5 sashes, and are concealed to the right. Tall chimney stacks are present at each end, and to the left of each house. The left-hand entrances have porches with quatrefoils to the uprights and tent roofs.
The rear of the houses have first-floor 8/8 sashes and second-floor 4/8 sashes. Tall, narrow 6/6 sashes serve as staircase windows, all within plain reveals and cambered arches. Raised ridges separate each house.
The interior of number 33 reveals a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters, and 4-panel doors. Number 35 contains a similar dog-leg staircase, with remnants of stick balusters on the first floor.
The railings to the sides of the porches and to the areas have open-lozenge finials.
