Description
23 High Street is a building dating from 1781, likely built in the early 18th century. It is a two-storey structure with an attic, featuring a seven-window red brick facade adorned with painted stone or stucco dressings. The windows are sash types set in cased frames with key blocks and glazing bars. The building has a moulded plinth and a moulded cornice at the eaves, along with a plain string band at the first-floor level. The central entrance consists of a six-flush-panel door topped by an elegant semi-circular fanlight, framed by a bolection moulded architrave, keystone, and entablature. The roof is covered with old tiles and includes three dormers with moulded pediments. Notably, the staircase dates back to before 1694. This building is part of a group of listed buildings on the south side of High Street.
