Description
This is a two-storey-plus-attic building, originally one building comprising two dwellings, dating from the 18th century. It is located on the south side of High Street. The facade is of red brick with a bracketed wooden cornice, a moulded stone plinth, and slender attached columns mirroring the design of the adjacent building, No. 25. The windows are sash windows set in brick reveals with stone key blocks. No. 27 has a pedimented doorcase featuring a bracketed cornice, Tuscan pilasters, rusticated jambs, and a semi-circular fanlight. The oak panelled doors are likely modern. The doorcase for No. 27A is a replica and contains incongruous stained glass in the fanlight. Four dormers, each with a pediment and rectangular leaded lights, are visible in the attic. The roof is covered in old tiles. Inside No. 27 is a staircase dating from after 1694. The building forms a group with other listed buildings in High Street.
