Description
29 High Street is a two-storey building with an attic, dating from 1781. It features a two-window facade made of local sandstone with ashlar detailing. The high proportioned openings have small bead-mould surrounds and key blocks. The sash windows, set in cased frames, may have been altered later, and there are spaces above them, about 1 foot 6 inches, that are blocked with solid panels. The moulded cornice at the eaves is significantly decayed, and there is a plain string band at the first-floor sill level. The building has a splayed plinth and rustications on the right-hand quoins. The entrance, located on the left side, has a six-fielded-panel door with a moulded wood architrave and a rectangular fanlight with plain glazing bars. It is topped by a good door hood featuring enriched cyma reversa moulding and large, heavily carved console brackets. There is a single later three-light gabled dormer, and the roof is covered with new machine tiles. Note that the door hood and brackets have now been removed. This building is part of a group of listed buildings on the south side of High Street.
