Description

Rock Mill House is a house built in the late 18th century, with early to mid-19th century additions and alterations, including an extension to the right. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone ashlar on the ground floor at the rear and sides, and features ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The house has a central hallway plan.

The exterior consists of three storeys with three first-floor windows and a two-storey single bay to the right. The main range has a centre bay that projects and is pedimented, with quoins at the ends of the ground floor. The first floor has a band and features 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor has 3/3 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with sills and flat arches made of rubbed brick with keystones.

The ground floor entrance is accessed by three steps and features a six-fielded-panel door with a fanlight, framed by Tuscan pilastered jambs and a doorcase with Tuscan pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. There are canted bays on either side, each with 8/2 centre windows and 4/1 side windows, separated by Tuscan pilasters and featuring sills, a frieze, and a cornice. The right extension has a projecting casement on the first floor and a 6/6 sash window on the ground floor, also in plain reveals with a flat arch of rubbed brick and a keystone, along with a sill. The main range has end stacks, with cornices.

At the rear, there are 6/6 sash windows and a bay window that includes a 6/6 window between two 2/2 sash windows.

Inside, the house features an openwell staircase with stick balusters and beamed ceilings.
