90 92, WEST STREET

Nos 90 and 92 on West Street, known as The Tudor House, is a notable building from 1781, primarily dating back to the early to mid 17th century. This three-storey house features four bays and has undergone extensive restoration, which included revealing the timber framing. The windows have been replaced with modern casements and leaded lights. The building displays four flush gables, with a band of geometric timber framing located beneath the second-floor sill level. The first storey showcases close square timber framing, with two sections of chevron framing near the center. The ground floor has earlier vertical studding that is fairly closely set. The upper floors are jettied, featuring moulded projecting floor joists, fragments of carving on the bressummers, and heavy console brackets. The house stands on a stone plinth and is topped with old tiles. This building is part of a group of listed buildings along the north-west side of West Street, from Nos 78 to 98.
