Description
The Bank is a group of four cottages, numbered 6, 7, 8, and 9, dating from around the 16th century. The cottages are timber-framed with red brick infill panels. Numbers 8 and 9, which are set back, were built later in the late 16th century, while numbers 6 and 7 were constructed earlier in the 16th century. They sit on sandstone foundations and feature a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gabled ends.
Number 7 is a single cross-wing house that was originally jettied but was raised in red brick during the 18th century. Number 6 has one storey and an attic, with a 17th-century timber-framed outshut at the rear. Numbers 7, 8, and 9 are two storeys tall and have a five-window range. The windows include two- and three-light casements with glazing bars; the windows in number 6 are modern, while the others date from the 18th or 19th century. The cottages have four plank doors and number 6 features a gabled dormer with a two-light casement with glazing bars. Attached to the west gable is a large sandstone ashlar chimney stack that tapers down to a square brick stack, along with three additional brick chimney stacks.
