Description

This is a circa mid-16th century range of timber-framed cottages, located on Coventry Road. The third bay from the right was added slightly later; its mid rail does not align with the mid rails of the other two bays. Number 10 was partly rebuilt in the early 19th century using red brick. The cottages sit on sandstone foundations and have red brick infill panels. They feature steeply pitched plain tile roofs with gabled ends. The cottages are two storeys high and have a five-window range. They contain 19th-century two- and three-light casement windows with glazing bars. A single plank door is at the front, leading to number 11. Number 12 is likely 17th century and has a single-bay, one-storey and attic timber-framed addition, with one gabled dormer containing a three-light casement window with glazing bars. Brick ridge chimneys and a brick stack above the front wall are present. Inside, the axial beams in the central and western bays are chamfered with stepped stops, dating to the mid-16th century. An original fireplace is found in number 12, and the roof is of a clasped purlin type.
