Description
The Cruck Cottage is a timber-framed cruck cottage dating from the early 16th century, which was modernised in the late 16th century and rebuilt in the 17th century. The crucks are finely shaped, and the cottage features red brick infill panels. It has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gabled ends and is one storey with an attic, comprising a three-window range. The windows are likely from the 18th or 19th century and are pitched three-light casements with glazing bars. There are two plank doors with gabled hoods, and a central flush gabled dormer from the 19th century, which has a two-light casement with glazing bars. The chimney stack is made of brick and is located at the ridge and end of the building.
Inside, there are two early fireplaces. In the central bay, the axial beam is elaborately moulded, while in the western bay, the axial beam, fireplace lintel, and joists feature chamfers and stepped stops.
