Description

This is a terrace of probably five houses, now shops with flats above, built around 1810 to 1820. Later additions and alterations include mid-to-late 20th-century shop fronts to the ground floor. The terrace also incorporates No. 37 Bedford Street. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco frontages, and has a cement-tile roof to the left-hand end (No. 63), while the rest of the roof is covered in Welsh slate with concealed roof details.

The two-storey terrace has attic dormers to numbers 67, 69, 73, and 75. It features nine first-floor window openings arranged in a 1:2:3:2:1 pattern. There are projections on the first and second floors, with end pilasters – Tuscan on the left, and Composite on the others. A continuous frieze, architrave, cornice, and low parapet run along the top. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows set in plain reveals, with sills to all except the first window. All windows have tooled architraves; the first, fourth, sixth, and ninth windows have cornices on acanthus consoles, while the central (fifth) window has a triangular pediment on acanthus consoles. The ground floor now has glazed entrances to glazed shop fronts. The attic windows are casements. The roof to the left is hipped. Tall ridge stacks with cornices are located to the right of numbers 63, 67, 71, and 75.

The left return elevation is three storeys wide, with three first-floor windows. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows, and the second floor has 3/6 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with sills and cambered arches. The interior has not been inspected.

Regent Street, originally known as Cross Street until the Prince Regent's visit in 1819, was laid out around 1808 to 1814 as one of the first streets in the ‘New Town’. The terrace forms a group with No. 79 Regent Street.
