Description
A row of four cottages, now three, was likely originally built as two houses in the mid to late 17th century, with alterations in the mid 19th century. Nos. 3 and 4 were converted into one house in the late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of squared coursed limestone with a slate roof featuring crested ridge tiles, a wood finial to the left end, and a brick section to the left end and ridge stacks. Originally, each cottage had a single-unit plan. They are two storeys and attic height, with a four-window front. Nos. 1 and 2 have adjoining, flush six-panelled doors within simple frames, with modern hoods above. Nos. 3 and 4 have a modern glazed door on the left and a partially glazed door on the right. Three-light casement windows are present throughout, with horizontal glazing bars to Nos. 1 and 2, and glazing bars to Nos. 3 and 4. The windows have wood lintels. There are four two-light roof dormers with glazing bars. Lean-tos are located at Nos. 1 and 4, with a plank door to No. 1 and a modern casement to No. 4. A straight joint between Nos. 2 and 3 is marked by a stone inscribed 'Here part the houses of WF/RC'. The interior of No. 2 includes a former open fireplace with a shelf, a cupboard with a three-plank door and strap hinges, and a broad-chamfered ceiling beam.
