Description
The Harbury War Memorial is located on a grass verge next to the churchyard wall in Crown Street. It features a granite wheel-head cross set on a square, tapered plinth, which stands on a base of three rectangular steps, with the upper two steps made of granite. The entire structure is approximately 3 meters tall and rests on a rectangular concrete slab.
On the eastern face of the plinth, there is a bronze plaque inscribed with "SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919." This plaque lists 33 names. The northern face of the plinth has another bronze plaque that reads "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-1945," which includes 10 names. Additionally, the eastern riser of the top step features a painted metal inscription that states, “MAKE THEM TO BE NUMBERED WITH THY SAINTS IN GLORY EVERLASTING.” The northern riser of the top step has a painted metal inscription that reads, “THEY ARE NOT DEAD BUT SLEEPING, AND THEIR NOBLE DEEDS WILL LIVE FOREVER.”
