Description
Lock Cottage, located on the Grand Union Canal, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and features a dentilled eaves cornice. The roof is made of Swithland slate, arranged in diminishing courses, with a brick ridge and lateral stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and is two stories high, with a two-window range of two-light casements, including one window on the first floor. There is a late 19th-century bay and an early 19th-century plank door to the left, which is topped by a brick segmental arch. Additional casements can be found in the wing at the rear. Inside, the cottage has chamfered spine beams, an original plank door, a straight-flight staircase, and three small brick open fireplaces.
