Description
The summerhouse and attached wall, located immediately south-west of Clifford Manor, were built around 1911 by Edward Douty, the owner. This small square structure is designed in a Georgian style, constructed from brick with ashlar dressings and topped with a stone slate roof.
The exterior features an ashlar plinth and quoins, a modillioned timber cornice, and a brick and timber pediment. Each face of the summerhouse has an entrance with a rubbed brick flat arch and a key, topped with an ashlar architrave leading to a small-paned half-glazed door. There are narrow flanking windows with sills and architraves that contain either 9/9 or 6/6 horned sashes. The pediments include round-headed niches that house statues, while one face of the structure does not have an entrance.
The attached wall features coping that returns to the house and includes a gate in the return. This gate is supported by rusticated gate piers with finials and has paired timber gates with rails. The summerhouse and wall are included for their group value with Clifford Manor.
