Description

Hill Farmhouse is a late 16th or early 17th century farmhouse with later 17th century additions. It is constructed of squared, coursed limestone with quoins and has coped gables. The roof is covered in stone slates, with brick end stacks. The building is two storeys plus an attic, and has a four-window front. It has an L-shaped plan, with a gabled wing on the right. A part-glazed door, covered by a 20th century lean-to hood, is located immediately to the left of the wing. A large 20th century three-light casement window is also on the left, and an ovolo-moulded three-light mullioned window sits on the first floor to the left. A two-light 12-pane casement window is on the right-hand side. There are two gabled dormers. The gable end has a later tall, round-headed staircase light that extends to the first floor, alongside a 20th century casement window. A blocked 17th century window is visible in the gable, retaining its hood mould and label stops. A similar blocked opening with a hood mould and label stops is situated below it, to the left. A blocked, partially destroyed four-centred arched doorway is found below the tall staircase light. A further gabled range to the right, joined to the first gable, incorporates a brick stack and an external ashlar stack with two flues. 19th-century stucco canted bays extend to the gable, rising to the second floor. The rear of the property features two four-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows, with a single stone light above. Inside, there are spine beams, some with ovolo moulding, and some stone flagged floors.
