Description

The well-head, located at SP 21024334, is a Grade II listed structure dating from 1864 and restored in 1920. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a Tudor arch with a tablet above. The tablet is inscribed with the words, "O all ye fountains bless ye the Lord. This tablet commemorates the exertions of those who provided the blessing of pure water for the inhabitants of Ilmington. Their names are enrolled in the vestry of the Church. The originators were Philip Henry Howard, Esq., Julian Charles Young M.A. RECTOR, Timothy Smith, James Bennet, George Crossley. A.D. 1864." The well-head also includes angle buttresses.
