Description
The dovecote, located approximately 60 metres southeast of Shelfield House, dates back to the 16th century. It is constructed of red random bond brick and features an old tile roof with an open wood lantern. The dovecote has a square plan with gables on each side. There is a central plank door that is raised above ground level, and each side has a 2-light unglazed wood mullioned window below the gable. The right return side window retains one leaded light. Inside, the floor is paved, and there are nesting places made of brick with stone slabs. An upper floor has been inserted, and the roof has been partially restored, featuring cross tie beams. This dovecote is part of a group that includes a cartshed, Shelfield House, and gatepiers.
