Description
The chest tomb, located approximately 11 meters south of the south door of the Church of St Mary Magdalene, is dedicated to Sarah Humphreys, who died in 1793. It is made of sandstone ashlar and sits on a pinkish-brown brick plinth. The tomb is rectangular, measuring about 1 meter wide, 2 meters long, and 1 meter high, with a shaped plinth. The chest features fielded panels, with two on the long sides and one on the short sides, topped by a slab with moulded edges. An inscription on the tomb reads: 'In a VAULT / underneath this Tomb / are deposited the Remains / of Sarah Wife of / George Humphreys / who died November ... / 1793 / Aged 49 Years'. All the listed items in the churchyard are considered to form a group.
