Description

This is a pair of early 18th-century houses, numbered 50 and 51, located in Preston on Stour. Number 51, the Old Bakery, is what is specifically described here. The houses are constructed of brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern on a rubble plinth, with some timber framing visible. They have a steeply pitched roof covered in old tiles, with brick end stacks and a central stack. The layout is a 4-unit baffle entry plan.

The exterior is two storeys with an attic, presenting a 2-plus-3-window front. Four pilaster strips define the irregular bays and a brick cornice runs along the top. The main entrance, located to the right of centre, has a six-panel door with two glazed panels. The windows are cross-casement style, set within rubbed brick flat arches featuring key blocks above small panes. The first-floor windows are similar, with leaded glazing, and there is a blocked window above the entrance. Three gabled dormers have two-light leaded casements. A rear outshut, exhibiting square framing, is located on the right-hand side. The interior has not been inspected.
