Description
This is a pair of 18th-century thatched cottages located on the east side of Main Street, Farnborough. The cottages are part of a row and were not built as a single structure. They are constructed from regular coursed ironstone. The thatched roof has a coped gable parapet with a kneeler on the left side, as well as brick end and ridge stacks.
The cottage to the left, known as Thatched Cottage, is one storey and attic in height with a single-window range, but has a late 20th-century one-window addition to its left. An entrance is located in this addition. A painted three-light, double-chamfered stone mullioned window with a hood mould is present. A swept half-dormer contains a three-light leaded casement. The interior of Thatched Cottage includes an open fireplace.
Apple Tree Cottage, to the right, is two storeys high with a two-window range. It has a plank door in a wooden frame with a wooden lintel on the right side and a three-light casement in a stone surround. Small single lights are found at the left and right ends. The first floor features very shallow half-dormers with three- and two-light 19th-century casements. The interior of Apple Tree Cottage has not been inspected.
