Description

The Butchers Arms Public House is a public house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with 19th and 20th-century additions on the left and some alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of squared coursed ironstone, while the additions are of regular coursed stone. The building has a 20th-century tiled roof and features a brick stack at the right end and ridge from the 19th or 20th century.

The layout consists of a three-unit plan that has been extended to a four-unit plan, and the building stands two storeys high with a four-window range. A low two-storey porch is located between the first and second bays, featuring an old studded door with an incised lozenge design and a painted wood lintel. There is a string course, and a moulded two-light mullioned window has 20th-century lights inserted. The first bay to the left is built out against the porch on the ground floor and has a four-light mullioned window. The roof is hipped, and there are two-light stone mullioned windows, some of which are painted, with leaded lights and hood moulds throughout. A 20th-century three-light casement is present on the right, while the 19th-century addition includes two 20th-century two-light casements.

Inside, the room to the right features a moulded and hollow-chamfered stone open fireplace, complete with ogee stops and a cambered wood bressumer.
