Description
Northdown House is a farmhouse located on Malt House Lane, dated 1688 and altered in 1868. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, featuring quoins and coped gables with finials. The roof is tiled from the 20th century and has a moulded stone ridge stack. The house has a 3-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic, with a four-window range that includes 2- and 3-light mullioned windows, all with hood moulds and labels. One of the mullioned windows has been replaced by a 3-light casement, and there is a small chamfered light on the far right. The entrance features a 20th-century plank door located to the centre-left, accompanied by a 20th-century porch. The left gable end has additional 2- and 3-light mullioned windows with hood moulds and labels. At the rear, there is a 2-light mullioned window, casements, and a stair-turret projection. A moulded datestone with a hood is inscribed in bas-relief with 'H/RS/1688' at the apex of the left gable end, and a tablet below indicates the house was restored in 1868. Inside, there is one ovolo-moulded spine beam, along with further chamfered spine beams that have ogee stops, and a large open fireplace.
