Description

Compton House is a vicarage dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of fine squared coursed limestone with rusticated quoins to the original section. The building is arranged over three and two storeys, with a five-window front. The original range features 2-storey bands and a moulded eaves cornice with a pediment. It has slate roofs with stone and brick ridge and end stacks. The late 17th/early 18th century range has C19 sash windows to the ground floor, and original sashes on the first and second floors. All windows have eared architraves and keyblocks. A larger range from the 19th and early 20th centuries adjoins the right side, containing sash windows and one mullioned and transomed window. A C19 four-panelled door is set within a lean-to porch at the centre of the building. A rendered gabled range to the rear, likely dating from the late 17th/early 18th century, includes a circular moulded stack. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
