Description

The Gables is a building that originally consisted of three houses, now combined into one. It dates back to the 17th century but was altered and re-fronted in 1899. The structure is made of brick and timber-frame, topped with a steeply pitched old tile roof featuring brick end stacks and a cross-axial stack. It has a three-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic, showcasing a three-window range.

The entrance is located to the right of the center and features a doorcase with pilasters and an entablature, topped with a 19th-century gabled canopy and a six-panelled door. To the left, there is a 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped tile roof, paired horned sashes, and side sashes. Each end of the bay has a window with a moulded brick sill and a rubbed brick flat arch over paired horned sashes. The first floor includes three gabled half-dormers with moulded brick sills and pebbledash over 2/2 horned sashes. There is a blocked entrance to the left of the center, with a Guardian fire plate above.

On the right return, there is a brick lean-to outshut with an external stack and exposed timber-framing on the gable and heads of the wall studs. The rear features timber-framing with brick infill, a rear wing, and inserted late 20th-century patio doors. The interior has not been inspected.
