Description
The Little House is a house comprising a main section built in 1699 and an earlier 17th-century wing, with later alterations. It is constructed of brick and timber frame on stone plinths, with steeply pitched old tile roofs and brick end stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape.
The main part of the house has a datestone inscribed "C /W A/ 1699", referring to William and Alice Cleeve. The front elevation has a brick plat band above the ground floor and a later top modillioned brick cornice. The entrance, situated to the left of centre, features a doorcase with pilasters and a bracketed open pediment hood, above a six-panel door with a fanlight containing decorative glazing bars. Most windows have tile sills and rubbed brick flat arches with key blocks over pegged small-paned cross-casements. However, two windows to the left of the entrance have six-over-six sash windows in wide frames, and the windows above these have lower sills. A ground-floor window at the right end has been replaced with a later bay window containing small-paned glazing. A single-storey gabled rear wing with an attic is also present.
The timber-framed wing to the right displays square framing with braces. The ground floor of this wing has two windows with pegged small-paned casements with iron opening casements, and a similar window is on the first floor. The rear of the house incorporates a 19th-century addition with a segmental-headed window and an end stack. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
