Description

This is a stable block and attached outbuilding, likely a former kitchen or bakehouse, situated approximately 10 metres west of Stoney Thorpe Hall. The structure dates to the 17th century, with possible origins in an earlier period. It is constructed of squared, coursed, banded lias stone, with a plain-tile roof and lias and brick end stacks, now truncated. The building follows an L-shaped plan, incorporating a cobbled through-passage. The two-storey, three-window range features irregularly disposed three-light mullioned windows and casements. A central archway has a 19th-century brick pointed head, while a Tudor-arched doorway is located to the right. An original plank door is present. A 17th-century doorway, featuring an elliptical-arched head, a moulded surround, and a hood mould with labels, is found on the left facade. Inside, a very large offset stack is located in the room to the right of the passageway, along with large, heavily-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
