Description

Hoo Mill is a mill and attached millhouse, with the mill dated to 1810 and the millhouse rebuilt in the mid-19th century. The mill is constructed of lias ashlar, featuring a second floor made of brick and a brick dentil cornice. It has an old tile roof with gable parapets. The millhouse is built from Bidford brick and also has an old tile roof with brick ridge stacks. The mill stands two storeys high with an attic, housing a mill wheel below and a four-window range. There is a stable door on the left and a first-floor loading door above it, along with double doors to the mill wheel on the right. The walls surrounding the wheel are entirely made of brick. The original casements have glazing bars, and all openings feature brick segmental arches.

The millhouse, located on the left, has a three-unit plan and is two storeys tall with a two-window range, with an entrance at the rear. It includes 19th and 20th-century casements with segmental arches. The right return side of the mill has an attic window, while the left return side of the millhouse has casements. At the rear, the mill has a segmental-arched opening over the mill wheel, with two ground floor and one first floor casements. The millhouse features a three-window range, a four-panelled door with a fanlight situated between the first and second windows, and a plank door with a segmental arch on the right, above which is a blind window. The sashes have eight vertical panes, with gauged brick flat arches on the ground floor and painted wood lintels on the first floor.

Inside the mill, the original wheel and machinery are in good working order, and the structure has a queen post roof. Extending from the right return side of the mill is a mid-20th-century single-storey range.
