Description

Camperdown Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse constructed from limestone ashlar, featuring a plinth, quoins, and moulded coped gables with finials. The roof is made of concrete tiles and has ashlar ridge stacks with diagonally set flues. The building has two storeys plus an attic and is arranged in an L-shaped plan with a three-window range.

At the center, there is a gabled porch that includes a four-centred moulded arch, a hood mould, and carved label stops, along with a small squint below and in the gable. The porch contains a plank door, and behind it is the original hood mould with carved labels. Above the porch, there is a partially obscured moulded datestone that is now illegible.

On the ground floor, there are three four-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with king mullions, while the first floor has three three-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows. All windows feature hood moulds, label stops, and iron casements with glazing bars. A lead sundial is located above the door in the porch.

The right gable end facade includes two four-light mullioned windows on the ground floor, three three-light mullioned windows on the first floor, and a two-light mullioned window in the gable end and in a further gabled dormer. All these windows are of ovolo mould, with the four-light windows featuring king mullions, and all have hood moulds and label stops. The central window on the first floor has original leaded lights, and there is an additional leaded casement in the gable window.

At the rear, there is a 17th-century plank door set within an ovolo-moulded, four-centred arched surround with a hood mould. Another plank door is found within a similar surround in the wing. The ground floor to the left features an old plank door with a hood mould and label stops, along with further four-light, three-light, and two-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows, all with hood moulds and label stops. One three-light and one two-light window have original leaded casements. Above the door in the wing, to the left, there is an ovolo-moulded staircase light with a hood mould.

Inside, there are two stone four-centred arched ashlar fireplaces with ovolo-moulded surrounds and mantels. The interior features 17th and 18th-century doors, a plank and muntin partition, and an oak turned baluster staircase that rises to the attic. The farmhouse is said to have original roof timbers, with some dated to 1700.
