Description
Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with an early 19th-century extension to the right. The front is constructed from squared, coursed limestone, while the sides and rear are made of lias rubble. The gable end from the 17th century is faced in cement. The roof is slate, featuring brick ridges and end stacks with stone bases. The building has two storeys plus an attic and presents a four-window range.
The 17th-century wing has a gable end with one four-light mullioned window on both the ground and first floors, where the ground floor window includes a king mullion. There is also a two-light mullioned window in the attic. These mullioned windows are adorned with hood moulds and label stops. The 19th-century range to the right features a six-panelled door with a chamfered stone surround. Flanking the door and on the first floor are 19th-century three-light casements with round-headed arches. To the right of the 17th-century wing is another three-light mullioned window, which also has a hood mould and label stops. The left facade of the 17th-century range includes additional two-light and three-light mullioned windows with iron glazing bars, all featuring hood moulds and label stops, with one three-light mullioned window located above. There is a further wing at the rear of the 19th-century range that contains two two-light mullioned windows.
Inside the 17th-century range, there are chamfered spine beams with ogee stops and chamfered joists in the kitchen. The interior also features a partially blocked open fireplace with a chamfered timber bressumer, which has ogee stops and is faced with 17th-century wood.
