Description
167 and 169 High Street is a house that now functions as a house and shop. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building features a timber frame with brick infill that has been refaced with roughcast brick. The roof is partly renewed and has gabled tiles, with a brick stack located at the rear of the ridge and an end stack. The layout consists of four units.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a range of four windows. There is a top timber cornice with flat modillions, although the left end is missing. No. 167 has a throughway on the right side; the entrance on the left end features a 20th-century door, and to the right is a small-paned canted bay window, both situated under a hipped pentice. No. 169 has an entrance with a gabled hood over a 20th-century glazed door, flanked by small-paned bow windows of varying sizes, each with entablatures.
On the first floor, the windows are 3-light small-paned casements. The windows on the left have been renewed, while those on the right include iron opening casements. Square framing is visible in the walls of the throughway and the gable to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
