Description

A pair of cottages, likely dating from the early 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century and later. The front appears to be plastered brick, with a rubble return wall and some internal timber framing. The roof is thatched with brick end and axial stacks, and a tile-covered outshut roof to the rear of number 69. Each cottage has a two-unit plan with rear outshuts, the one at number 67 having been rebuilt and enlarged in 1992.

The cottages have two storeys and a four-window front. A top brick cornice, with modillion details, extends over eyebrow half-dormers. Number 67 has a segmental-headed entrance on the left side of the centre with a 20th-century door, a segmental-headed window to the left with a two-light leaded casement, and an early 20th-century bay window with a hipped roof and a transomed, leaded, 1:3:1-light glazing to the right. On the first floor, there are two small windows with two-light leaded casements. The end of a stone return wall is visible to the ground floor. Number 69, which is larger, has a segmental-headed entrance to the right of the centre with a 20th-century half-glazed door. Segmental-headed windows on the ground floor have two-light leaded 20th-century casements flanking the entrance, and a similar three-light casement to the left. The first floor has similar three-light casements. The left return wall is of rubble and part of it was demolished in 1992, revealing an internal cross-wall of timber framing with regular scantlings. The rear has a catslide outshut to number 69. The interior was not inspected.
