Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Broad Close is a house that has been divided into three residences. It was built around 1740, with later additions made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond on a stone plinth, topped with a steeply pitched old tile roof and brick stacks. It has a three-unit plan, with the left unit being a 19th-century addition.

The exterior features two storeys plus an attic and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement, with a single-window addition to the left. There is a plat band above the ground floor of the original house and a top modillioned brick cornice that runs across the entire building. The entrance includes a doorcase with reeded pilasters and a consoled open pediment, with a fanlight above a six-fielded-panel door, which is likely from the 20th century. The segmental-headed windows flanking the entrance and those on the first floor have horned sashes in flush frames, while the window on the ground floor to the right is set behind reveals. A late 19th-century hipped bay window is located at the left end, and the attic features two hipped dormers with iron opening casements.

At the rear, there is a parallel range with a partly stone rear wing, a re-entrant porch, and two 20th-century doors. The rear range includes one small-paned casement, and the left return of the front range has a bay window with a casement above. The interior has not been inspected.
