Description

The Knoll is a house dating from the late 16th century to the 17th century, with the central section refaced or rebuilt in the 18th century or early 19th century, and mid-19th century alterations. The building is timber framed with colourwashed brick infill, and the cross wing features curved tension braces and a lias plinth. The central section is faced in colourwashed brick, and the left end is underbuilt in the same material. The roof is covered with 20 tiles and there are brick internal stacks. The house is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys with a three-window range.

The central entrance features a recessed six-panelled door with an overlight, surrounded by a moulded wood frame and a shallow hood, dating from the 18th or early 19th century. There are 19th and 20th century casement windows with glazing bars. The central section has symmetrically-placed canted bay windows on the ground floor, with a blank window above the door. The cross wing has a gable with vertical boarding, mid-19th century openwork bargeboards, and a finial. The right return side shows exposed framing, while the left return side has a jowled post. The rear of the house has some exposed framing but is mostly faced in brick.

Inside, there is exposed framing and ceiling beams, an open fireplace with a smoke cupboard, and the roof features curved windbraces.
