Description
The dovecote, located approximately 70 metres south-west of Hillborough Manor House, is a structure likely dating from the 17th century or earlier. It is built from narrow coursed blue lias rubble, with some wider courses, and features a conical tile roof. The dovecote has a circular plan with a diameter of 7.5 metres.
On the exterior, there is a low entrance on the north side, which has a heavy frame supporting a 20th-century wide-boarded door. The lantern on top has a conical roof and is topped with a weather-vane.
Inside, the walls are lined with stone nesting boxes and ledges, and there is a central inserted brick pier. The dovecote is noted for having 900 nesting boxes and walls that are 1 metre thick.
