Description
Sambourne Hall is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. It is timber framed with brick infill and pebbledash, topped with a 20th-century tile roof and featuring brick internal and ridge stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, stands two storeys tall with an attic, and has a four-window range with three gables on the front. The entrance is located in a re-entrant angle and features a six-panelled door within a mid-19th-century glazed porch that has Gothic details and a half-glazed door. The windows are mid-19th-century casements with numerous glazing bars, and there is a fire window present. Inside, there is a large ribbed internal stack and exposed framing with jowled posts on the left return side. The rear shows some exposed framing on the ground floor and gable, along with a 19th-century open verandah. The interior includes exposed framing and chamfered ceiling beams, with open fireplaces in two rooms. This farmhouse is a fairly large example of timber framing that has survived substantially intact.
