Description
29, 30, 30A, and 31 Henley Street is a farmhouse that has been converted into shops. It dates from the 17th century and was refaced and extended in the early 19th century. The stone cellars suggest that it incorporates elements of a medieval structure. The building features a timber frame with brick refacing and a slate roof, which has brick stacks at the front and rear, as well as an end stack. It is two storeys high and has a seven-window range in a Georgian style.
On the left side, there is a four-window range with three entrances that have plain doorcases and bracketed open pediments. The entrance on the right end leads into the building, while the left entrance features an overlight with decorative glazing bars above a six-panel half-glazed door. Bow windows to the left of the entrances have flush-panel aprons, panelled pilasters, and entablatures, with small-paned glazing. The first floor has windows with sills and brick flat arches over 16-pane sash windows, and there is a sundial on the right end.
To the right, there is a symmetrical three-window range that is an addition. This entrance also has a similar doorcase, and the windows have sills and 16-pane sashes, with the central first-floor window being narrower and featuring an 8-pane sash. The rear of the building shows exposed timber framing on the right end, with brick wings, one of which has a cross wing. The timber frame is also exposed on the left return and in the entry passage. Inside, there are chamfered beams, and it is recorded as having a stone cellar.
