Description
Castle House is an early 19th-century house located on Butter Street in Alcester. It is constructed of whitewashed brick with a slate roof and a brick chimney. The building has a two-unit plan and stands three storeys tall, featuring a one-window range. The main facade is the end wall facing High Street, which includes a late 20th-century two-storey canted bay. The second floor has a 19th-century casement window, and all casements are fitted with glazing bars. The roof is concealed by a castellated parapet, which was partly rebuilt in the late 20th century.
The entrance is located on the Butter Street side and features a late 20th-century six-panelled door. The doorcase is moulded wood, adorned with consoles that have lion heads and a pediment. There are no windows on this side. The side facing the churchyard has a two-window range with casements and brick segmental arches. The interior has not been inspected. The house occupies an important position at the edge of the churchyard and is included for its group value.
