Description

The Traveller’s Rest is a circa 1700 inn, later converted into a house, located on Stratford Road in Wootton Wawen. The building exhibits a three-unit plan with rear additions. The original construction is timber-framed with whitewashed brick nogging. The front wall has been rebuilt in brick and is now whitewashed, topped with a thatched roof, with plain-tile roofs to the bay windows.

Architecturally, it is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring a three-window front. The left return showcases small panels of square timber-framing and jowled posts. Timber framing is also present on the right gable end. The central entrance is accessed through a 20th-century porch containing a plank door, flanked by canted bay windows with hipped roofs and 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. The roof is gabled and includes a central half-dormer with matching casements. The building has ridge stacks on the right end and rear.

The interior retains small square panels of timber-framing visible on the original rear wall.
