Description

Clements Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations, including 20th-century extensions to the right and rear. The building is timber-framed with colour-washed brick nogging and has a renewed tile roof. It features a cross-wing to the left and a single cell to the right.

The exterior is 1 and 2 storeys high, with a 2-window range, the taller section being on the left. It has small, square panels of timber-framing with curved braces, and a massive jowled wall-post on the right side, also with braces. There is a stack at the right end. The entrance is a plank door with a hood, positioned to the right of centre. The cottage has 20th-century casement windows throughout, including one on the upper floor to the right, which is located under a gabled dormer, and another in the gable to the left. The roofs are gabled.

Inside, the cottage features extensive exposed small square panels of timber-framing. There is an exposed chamfered spine beam and joists with ogee stops. The inglenook fireplace has been rebuilt but retains the original deeply-chamfered bressumer beam on the original rear wall. The first floor includes exposed wind braces and a jowled stud on the left, and likely has a queen strut roof truss. The attic in the left wing contains roughly-hewn purlins and a ridge purlin, with the rear end wall featuring a tie-beam with vee-struts.
