Description

Hawthornes is a house likely dating from the mid to late 18th century, with subsequent additions and alterations. The exterior is painted brick with a plain-tile roof. It is a two-story house with an attic, featuring a three-window front. The layout follows a central hallway plan. The main entrance is a central six-fielded-panel door with a divided overlight, situated between two canted bay windows with casement windows containing glazing bars, all sheltered by a continuous pentice roof. The first floor has three casement windows with lead cames and metal surrounds, set under cambered arches. A modillion eaves band runs along the roofline, which is gabled. Two attic dormers have casement windows with glazing bars. Chimneys have cornices. There is reputed to be a cellar. The interior is said to contain beams in the ceilings and an inglenook fireplace. Hawthornes forms a group with The Bull's Head Inn, on Alcester Road, and Pound Cottage, also on Alcester Road.
