Description

The cart shed with stable and hayloft at Manor Farm is a structure dating from around 1700, with a stable range likely added in the late 18th century and some later modifications. The building features timber-framing on the east gable end, reddish-brown brick, and a plain-tile roof.

The exterior consists of a three-bay range with an additional two-bay range to the west. On the east end, there is a bressumer beam above the cart opening with a pitching door above it. The gable end has small square timber-framing, while the south side includes a plank door set in a moulded wood frame, an upper floor with a plank pitching door, and a four-pane window. There is also a pitching door on the north side that faces the one on the south.

Inside, the structure has two trusses with curved principals, a collar, ridge purlin, side purlins, and wind braces. The tie-beams feature ogee stops and are made from roughly-hewn timbers. The west range has a cart-opening with double plank doors and a timber lintel, while the stable opening includes a plank door with an elliptical arch and a small elliptically arched window opening with a plank strut cover. A flight of steps leads to the west gable end, which has a pitching door and a four-pane overlight above it.

This cart shed, along with the Manor Farmhouse, barn range, and stables, forms a cohesive group of historical buildings.
